I met Lizz in Berlin and proposed this idea of shooting night portraits to her. She was super interested in the project. I had heard so many good things about night life in Berlin. I asked her for suggestions and she gave me a place. I decided to go check the place before the shoot happened. And that was the first time in two weeks that I actually stepped out of home at night. Like an idiot I was checking all the places except the one she suggested. She also found a place with neon lights and stuff. We met the next day. She greeted me with a bright smile. We decided to grab something from the super market, sit and chat for a while. Lizz is Russian and is doing her Masters in sociology in Berlin. Within five mins into our conversation, she made a ‘That’s what she said’ joke and I instantly knew that she is gonna be fun.
I have never done night portraits in my life and I was kinda skeptical how the output was going to be. Lizz was super easy in front of the camera. It was like I was shooting pictures of a professional model. We started walking and shot pictures on the go. There was this tiny disco booth and I asked her what it was. She explained and said let’s try it. She selected one of her fav songs and started dancing in that tiny space and I started clicking pictures. We decided to walk towards the place with neon lights. It was late night and a long walk. Sadly when we reached there, it said it was a private property. She was quite disappointed and we sat down near the river. It was midnight when we decided to leave. I was quite happy with the pictures but the actual problem was how to select only 10 pictures out of the lot. Every single picture had a style to it. And guess who owned it? You can call her Lizzard. 😄
